Annie’s Place is a transition house located in Sooke, on Vancouver Island that is available at no cost to all women* and their children seeking safe haven when leaving a violent situation. The house is staffed 24 hours a day and provides safe, clean, confidential and temporary emergency accommodation for up to 30 days. It is a place designed and dedicated to being free from the threat of violence.

You are encouraged to reach out for support to our staff, who will assist you through the intake process to stay at Annie’s Place or to help locate safe housing more local to the community you reside or hope to reside. Our professional, dedicated and caring staff will always encourage exploration of all available options and will stand as a pillar of support for those in the process of learning to live without violence.

Annie’s Place has private, comfortable bedrooms (two are pet friendly), a shared kitchen and living space, as well as an indoor playroom and lounge area. Those in the house will be living in a shared space and will have the opportunity to connect with other women and children who have lived through violence.

The staff of Annie’s Place will provide

  • An unbiased, safe, calm and confidential space to recover.

  • Individualized emotional support as requested.

  • Access to healthy food, clean clothing, and other necessary essentials.

  • Assistance with childcare wherever possible.

  • Assistance in connecting with agencies and resources offering legal, medical, housing or financial help as well as referrals to Sooke Transition House Society counselling services including but not limited to PEACE, STV, and the VS programs.

*When we refer to “women”, we are referring to women in all their diversity, inclusive of LGBTQ2SAI+ individuals.

Annie’s Place is funded by BC Housing and by generous community support.

Why is it called Annie’s Place?

“We felt that the Sooke Transition House name didn't encompass what we are as a Transition House. We wanted something more welcoming, so, we chose Annie's Place. Annie Acreman was a founding pioneer of Sooke. In the Sooke community she was known as the "Mother of Sooke" teaching three generations of students.”

- Quoted from a founding member of the Transition House.
